Celebrating Local Talent at the 2024 Paris Olympics

As we continue to gear up for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, we’re thrilled to highlight the incredible athletes hailing from Washington state. These remarkable individuals are set to compete on the global stage, showcasing their hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent. Here’s a look at some of the local stars making us proud:

Artistic Swimming

Audrey Kwon and Keana Hunter are making waves as part of the U.S. artistic swimming team, a significant milestone since the event hasn’t seen U.S. participation since 2008. Both started their journey right here in Washington, with Kwon training at the Seattle Synchro Club.

Basketball

Washington’s courts have produced top-tier talent like Josh Hawkinson and Hailey Van Lith. Hawkinson, representing Japan, and Van Lith, playing for the U.S. 3×3 team, bring their local legacies to Paris. It’s thrilling to see our hometown heroes shine on the international stage.

Canoe/Kayak

Roosevelt High School alum Nevin Harrison returns to the Olympics aiming to add another gold medal to her collection in the Canoe Sprint 200 meters. Also, Aaron Small and Jonas Ecker, former UW athletes, are competing in the K2 sprint kayak event, showcasing their prowess on the water.

Gymnastics

Vancouver’s own Jordan Chiles is back with the U.S. women’s gymnastics team. After winning a silver medal in Tokyo, Chiles continues to inspire with her dynamic performances and dedication.

Rowing
Washington’s strong rowing heritage is well-represented with several former UW athletes competing. Michael Callahan, UW’s men’s rowing coach, leads the U.S. men’s eight boat. The women’s teams also feature many local rowers and coaches, underscoring our state’s rowing excellence.

Track and Field

Pasco’s Marisa Howard will compete in the women’s steeplechase, while Bremerton’s CJ Allen makes his debut in the 400-meter hurdles. Their outstanding achievements on the track are something to watch out for in Paris.

Equestrian

Adrienne Lyle, born on Whidbey Island, is set to compete in dressage with her horse Helix. With previous Olympic experience, Lyle’s journey from the Pacific Northwest to Paris is a story of dedication and passion.

These athletes are the pride of Washington, and we can’t wait to cheer them on as they go for gold in Paris. Be sure to follow their journeys and support our local talent as they compete on the world stage!
